World Bicycle Relief is a nonprofit organization that is working since June 2009 with the government of Zambia (Ministry of Education) in a project to improve access to schools in the African country. Due to economic and development difficulties, the education system has no schools available for a significant proportion of the population. To increase accessibility to schools, especially in rural areas World Bicycle Relief and other NGOs have distributed about 50,000 bicycles to school children and teachers in 16 districts of the country most at risk. The bikes have been manufactured in Zambia and the project has included the formation of bicycle mechanics to achieve sustainability and erdurabilidad of this action.
